According to the latest strategy, at present, up to 1069 families with 6168 members are still living on boats on the rivers of Hue city. The largest number referred to is 427 families at Vida ward, 246 at Phu Binh ward, and 237 at Bai Dau etc. This is not only the cause of population problem, but also the direct reason threatening to water environment of all the rivers.
In recent years, the government has noticeably invested a part of budget to move hundreds of boat-inhabitants for re-inhabitance at Truong An ward, Huong Long and Bai Dau commune. A new project has presently been set up to move all the rest of boat inhabitants ashore until 2011. As estimated, to move 1069 families with 6186 people ashore, the local authority has to expends up to 236 billion dong.
